The issue of illegal immigration is in the newspaper headlines on a daily basis, yet the current Congress has failed to act to advance legislation that would combat the problem of illegal immigration. Melissa believes addressing the issue of illegal immigration is critical to our national security. Employers need to have access to a reliable database to determine whether a person is legally eligible to work in the U.S. We need to ensure that our borders are secure and hold employers accountable who hire illegal immigrants. We must also have enough personnel on our borders with the tools they need to do their job. Melissa knows that we have to enforce our immigration laws; that is why when local police were told by federal officials to ignore illegal immigrants in Western Pennsylvania, she joined her colleagues in introducing legislation to allow local police to enforce immigration laws.
